Steven Kaufman AIDS Outreach Project
The Steven Kaufman AIDS Outreach Project was established in 1991 in memory of Steven by his family to raise community awareness about HIV/AIDS and the risky behaviors associated with the spread of the virus – while addressing the issues of personal responsibility and values in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Steven Kaufman grew up in Pikesville, Maryland. He was a young man full of energy and vitality, living life to the fullest. When Steven became HIV positive in 1984, his life changed – and so did the lives of those who loved him.
Steven died of AIDS in 1990. He was only 32 years old.
In the time it took you to read this, another person in the world, between the ages of 15 and 24, became infected with HIV.
The Steven Kaufman AIDS Outreach Project was founded by the Kaufman family with the hope that no person would become infected due to lack of knowledge.
Bringing together these programs as JCS Prevention Education has allowed for a comprehensive health education program that addresses the range of risky behaviors facing our community today. Dedicated health educators address the complex issues facing young and old alike including alcohol and drug abuse and other addictions, the spread of HIV/AIDS, bullying, internet safety and other wellness related topics. Programs are tailored appropriately for various ages and religious sensitivities.
