Out of Stigma’s Shadow: A Conversation with Nic Sheff

Join us for an evening with Nic Sheff, whose heartbreaking and inspiring struggle with substance use disorder is the story of “Beautiful Boy,” a major motion picture starring Timothée Chalamet as Nic and Steve Carell as his father, David. 

 Andrea K. McDaniels*deputy editorial page editor at The Baltimore Sun, will talk with Nic about his personal, unglamorized story of substance abuse and recovery, including its impact on those who love him.
There will be an opportunity for Q&A following the interview.


Recognized as “a life-changing speaker,” Nic puts a compelling human face on our nation’s substance abuse epidemic, encouraging those who struggle to embrace help and bringing hope to all who are touched by it.

*In addition to her role as deputy editorial page editor at The Baltimore Sun, where Andrea helps shape the newspaper’s opinion on key issues in the news, she also writes a column that runs every three weeks, with a special interest in social justice issues. Previously, Andrea was a health and medicine reporter at The Sun who won several awards for her coverage of health disparities and trauma. Her series “Collateral Damage,” about the invisible health impacts suffered by people who live in violent communities, won several recognitions, including The American Association for the Advancement of Science Gold Award and the Association of Health Care Journalists’ top award for public health reporting.
