Presented by: Danyell K. Williams, M.S.
Mass incarceration and failed rehabilitation have resulted in staggering economic and human costs. The challenge is to develop a proactive, comprehensive, evidence-based “smart decarceration” strategy that will dramatically reduce the number of people who are imprisoned and enable the nation to embrace a more effective and just approach to public safety. This session will focus on criminal justice involved women and the need for gender informed approaches, programming, and policy.
As a result of this training, participants will:
- Understand the effect of mass incarceration on women, especially pregnant and parenting women
- Gain insight into the impact of gender inequity in prison reform
- Explore gender-informed approaches and policy necessary for “smart decarceration.”
- Learn about The Talitha Cumi Project
