Presenters:
Daniel Neuman, CRNP, PMHNP
Medical Director, Jewish Community Services Outpatient Mental Health Clinic

Workshop Description

This training is designed to equip mental health clinicians with practical tools to better recognize, understand, and support clients diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Participants will learn to differentiate between Bipolar I, Bipolar II, and related mood disorders; identify key symptoms including manic, hypomanic, and depressive episodes; and understand the basics of common psychiatric medications and their side effects. The session emphasizes how non-prescribing clinicians can skillfully observe, document, and communicate clinical changes while staying within their professional scope and effectively collaborating with prescribing providers.

Learning Objectives

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key diagnostic features of Bipolar I and II and distinguish them from other mood and personality disorders.
  • Describe hallmark symptoms of manic, hypomanic, and depressive episodes, and recognize red flags that may warrant prescriber communication.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of common mood stabilizers and antipsychotic medications, including side effects that clinicians should monitor and report appropriately.
