Workshop Description
This training provides mental health professionals with the tools and knowledge to effectively support clients through the complexities of grief. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the non-linear nature of grief, recognizing that each individual’s experience is unique and may not align with a predictable path.
The workshop will explore the signs and symptoms of grief across the lifespan, from childhood to older adulthood, highlighting developmental and situational variations in how grief is expressed. Finally, attendees will learn practical, evidence-based strategies to reduce grief symptoms and foster resilience, equipping them to provide compassionate and tailored care for grieving clients.
Learning Objectives
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
- Develop an understanding of the non-linear stages grief which differ for each individual client
- Learn signs and symptoms of a grieving client across the lifespan
- Learn effective strategies to reduce grief symptoms
Tiffany Hembry, LCSW-C is Senior Manager of Clinical Assessment and Response at Jewish Community Services. With a strong background in behavioral and mental health assessments, Tiffany has worked extensively with youth, families, and adults in various settings, including Child Protection, School-Based Mental Health Programs, and Community Outpatient Mental Health Organizations. She is trained as a Cognitive Behavioral Health and Grief Therapist and is a member of the Jewish Community Incident Response Team.
Tiffany holds a B.A. in Psychology from Rowan University and a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University. She is also a certified grief clinician and a certified financial cocial worker. She brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role in clinical assessment and mental health care.
Donna Kane, MA, CT is Grief Program Coordinator at Jewish Community Services. She develops and facilitates psychoeducational programs and support groups for children, teens, and adults as well as providing grief counseling to individuals and families. Donna is also a coordinator of the Jewish Community Incident Response Team.
Donna received her master’s degree in clinical psychology from Loyola College and is certified in Thanatology from the Association of Death Education and Counseling (ADEC). She has served as an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University through their Odyssey programs teaching End of Life Issues and the Psychology of Aging. Additionally, she has authored many blogs on the topic of grief and co-authored a chapter about grief support groups for a graduate level textbook.
